Versions of the report

The AR6 Synthesis Report: Climate Change 2023 comes in several versions or editions:

As we are mining a specific document, it is important to clarify that as of May 2023, this wiki is only concerned with the Longer Report (Q118522654), available via https://www.ipcc.ch/report/ar6/syr/downloads/report/IPCC_AR6_SYR_LongerReport.pdf. Since the content at that URL may change, I am specifically using the version available there on May 11, 2023, as per https://web.archive.org/web/20230511234926/https://www.ipcc.ch/report/ar6/syr/downloads/report/IPCC_AR6_SYR_LongerReport.pdf.

Issues with the report

Copyright issues

IPCC asserts copyright over the report, such that it is not obvious that reuse of the report's content in this wiki is compliant with their terms of use.

Conceptual issues

  • The statements for which the confidence levels are indicated are rather complex, i.e. they combine a number of statements or concepts in a way that makes it hard to assess to which of the many potential relationships between the respective variables that confidence level would apply.
  • It is not clear how best to refer to these statements. P3 currently has the label "has the IPCC statement". Perhaps this should rather be "has IPCC assertion".

Potential copyedits

  • Footnote 5 on p. 4 defines "more likely than not >50-100%" twice
